FASCINATION
Emmanuel (Manu) Lançon is fascinated by healthy food and wine. A dish can deeply move him to the point of tears. He enjoys opening doors, transporting people with his wine, and introducing others to new experiences. His humility, a rare trait in winemaking, is evident in his response to praise. He often doesn't know how to handle it but is content with his success, which is a result of all the appreciation.
REFLECTION
His wines are convincing in content. They tell the story—the reflection of nature.
Manu has an opinion but does not impose it. He explains and clarifies. The Jura has always been his particular preference. He is a seeker, more interested in the questions than the answers. Manu strives to create a wine that resonates with someone—a wine that is not confined and does not adhere to strict requirements and rules. He believes that wine should be approachable naturally, fostering a sense of connection and authenticity with the audience.
POWER
From the beginning, Manu has worked hard to improve all ecological aspects of the vineyard, such as biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation. He does tasks such as pruning, leaf removal, and harvesting by hand. In the cellar, the work is as minimalistic as possible, meaning that he uses traditional winemaking techniques and avoids excessive manipulation of the wine. Manu does not use nitrogen or sulphur. The wines are not clarified or filtered. The essence of his work is to respect the characteristic properties of the terroir by working as purely and cleanly as possible. That is where his strength lies.
OENOLOGIST
Manu's current list of facts states that almost 20 years ago, as a graduate oenologist, he came to Montigny-les-Arsures in the Jura with his wife Emilie from Provence and started working for other producers. In 2012, he started making wine in tiny quantities in his spare time. From Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard and Trousseau. His philosophy is clear and very simple. He wants to make the perfect wine of the Jura and not just a good wine. He would like it to become one of the most sought-after wines in the world. And he has succeeded wonderfully. The wines of Domaine des Murmures, now sought after by maniacal collectors worldwide, have brought a sense of prestige and exclusivity to his winemaking journey.
